Delivery Info

Standard shipping is £2.50, or FREE when you spend over £30. This is Royal Mail 2nd Class. Please allow 10 working days for this to arrive. The next level up is Royal Mail 1st Class and costs £3.50. Please allow 7 working days for this to arrive. It’s FREE on orders over £100.

The fully tracked versions of these services are FREE for orders over £50. Royal Mail prioritises them, so they are much more reliable. Allow 2 working days for 1st Class Tracked and 4 working days for 2nd Class Tracked

All parcels are either delivery confirmed or fully tracked, and you will get the tracking link in your email confirmation when we dispatch. Parcels over £200 are “signed-for” too. For very heavy orders, we may use a different courier which is likely to have an earlier than usual cutoff time for same-day dispatch, of 11am.

If speed is really important to you, you, we can send by Special Delivery (If you are interested, contact us); however we do not currently recommend it.

We can also organise same-day couriers on request. As you can imagine they are very expensive. (If you are interested, contact us).

For countries we ship to, international shipping varies by parcel weight. But it starts at just £4.95 for Europe if you spend over £50 (£13.50 if you spend under £50). We don’t currently give prices for parcels over 2kg as they can be very expensive to some countries. If you are interested, contact us for a personalised quote. In many cases  you will find it cheaper to split your order into two! We ship to very few countries other than Europe. The system won’t let you order if it’s not set up. We don’t ship to North America (sorry folks, it’s to do with regulatory and legal risk, as well as insurance limitations), but we are prepared to look at adding other countries by request.

We only ship by air on tracked and (where available) signed services.

Please understand shipping to your country is at your risk. You will typically have to pay tax and a processing fee in your country to receive it. We cannot predict how your country is going to treat each parcel. If your parcel is returned to us, we will refund the cost of your items, NOT the full amount you may have paid for us to ship internationally.

Countries vary greatly in how they deal with incoming parcels. On our side, we remove 20% UK VAT at checkout if you are shipping to an international address. This makes our products look cheaper, but on importing them you are likely to have to pay the relevant VAT for your country, as well as a customs processing fee.

Some countries have lower thresholds below which they do not assess for taxes, and upper thresholds where they treat the parcel as commercial, and may levy higher taxes, or require more paperwork. So we may place basket limits to certain countries to protect you from getting caught in such a situation.

Since 1st January 2021, we have been testing the waters with shipping by air to EU countries. There appears to be a lot of disruption and countries vary greatly in how they deal with incoming parcels. For parcels worth over 150 euros, including shipping, your country’s customs are also likely to assess the parcel for duties and tariffs. Products of EU and UK origin, as well as many other countries, carry zero tariffs; but some products, such as those made in the US may have additional tariffs. And your processing fee for parcels going down this clearance track is likely to be higher. For this reason, we have restricted parcels to a value of £120.

Our experience so far (updated 12 October 2021) with different countries is below as a guide, but policies and logjams can change fast:

  • Austria: Slow but otherwise OK. A recent parcel took 2 weeks in customs.
  • Belgium: One parcel has been returned to us twice without explanation, so we have restricted that product from being sold to Belgium. Other parcels have got through swiftly without problem. We have noted a customs formalities fee of 15 euros being charged in addition to 21% VAT .
  • France: Fast and smooth delivery
  • Germany: Mostly fast and smooth. We saw one instance where tax was charged at 15% plus 6 euro processing fee. Recently some parcels have been very slow.
  • Greece: Have been returning parcels (eventually) for no obvious reason.
  • Ireland: Fast and smooth delivery. We have noted a customs fee of 3.5 euros in addition to VAT.
  • Luxembourg: Took 8 days, including customs. 20% VAT was charged.
  • Malta: Took 11 days, and no customs fee or VAT was charged.
  • Spain: All parcels have gone through customs, and were delivered after 10 days.
  • Sweden: We do not know why parcels are not getting through, but they are all disappearing. Other countries seem to be OK with our customs paperwork, so we think this is a Swedish issue. We have suspended sales to Sweden completely. Sorry about that.

If you might not be in when the parcel is delivered, then please feel free to put a delivery note asking for it to be delivered to a safe place – and some people even ask for parcels to be left on their doorstep. We will try to mark what you ask on the label, but in some cases, we may not be able to, for example as higher value parcels may need a signature. Also, we can’t guarantee what your postman will do. And finally, we can’t take responsibility for what happens to it. All parcels have delivery confirmations whether you sign for them or not. And if Royal Mail tell us a parcel was delivered, you asked for it to be left on your doorstep and mysteriously it isn’t there when you get home… sorry but that is your responsibility.

Yes. All our parcel deliveries are delivery confirmed, and higher value orders are fully tracked.

Before Coronavirus, the deliveries were unbelievably reliable and it’s still incredibly rare that a parcel gets completely lost. But delays and problems can occur, especially when you’re not in and/or they forget to leave a card, so check with us if you think that might have happened.

The cutoff for same-day dispatch on weekdays is usually 4pm, but if we’re busy, it could be earlier. 3:45pm is pretty safe. We also usually dispatch on Saturdays, and the cutoff is usually around noon. Obviously, for bank holidays, we will dispatch the next business day.

If you buy only products that don’t have VAT, then we won’t charge VAT on your shipping either! That mostly applies to food and books.

It is incredibly rare that parcels go missing completely. When the parcel is showing in tracking as having been delivered, the answer is usually that someone else in the household took it in, it was delivered to a neighbour, left in an outhouse, or it was delivered to the wrong address due to a typo in the address that was put into the web site.

So do check that your order confirmation has the correct address and have a look anywhere else it could be. We once had a lovely lady who confessed she had already put her order in the fridge and forgot about it!

There is a special code in your order confirmation email that lets you make another order with free postage if you put it in before the first one is dispatched.

If we are able to, often we will combine orders to the same address into the same parcel, to save postage and packing. We will not issue a refund by default because it is quite a faff to do, and we have already given you the opportunity to use the free shipping code. But if you ask for a refund, we will of course provide it.

If our carrier has attempted delivery but you were not in, they will typically leave a card telling you how to collect or rearrange delivery. If you don’t receive your parcel, you must check the tracking link in case they have forgotten to leave the card or it got lost.

If you don’t arrange redelivery within a reasonable time, they will generally return the parcel back to us. When we get it back, we will usually offer to send it again (if in the UK), or refund you, less any shipping charge.
